When focusing on global edits rather than local edits I found it very helpful to edit my peers’ papers. Global edits allow for us to focus on the over message the writer is looking to portray rather than focusing on the little things, local edits, going on within the essay. Although difficult at times I think it is the best way to accomplish an effective first edit. Yes, there were a few instances I wanted to add in a comma or correct a word but I had to remember that was not what I was looking for; keeping in mind that this was not a final draft but a way of getting our ideas on the paper. I feel as though receiving an essay with global edits versus local edits also allows for a more productive revision process. This is because a lot of the time when editing we can pick out a misspelling or a grammatical error ourselves but we do not always think to acknowledge the bigger picture, and with the help of fresh eyes from our peers we are introduced to more efficient ways of going about our paper. Overall, I liked using global edits when peer editing because not only are they more helpful to the writer but they allow for the editor to grasp an understanding for the essay and what the writer was arguing.
